In every one of those cases somebody ends up with heavy, awkward, perfectly good material and no obvious way to convert it back into cash.

Scrapping is the default, and it is usually the wrong call. A scrap price reflects metal weight minus the yard's processing cost. Our price reflects what the reel is worth to a contractor who needs that construction next week, which for resaleable material is frequently several times the scrap number. We also buy genuine scrap-grade wire, so there is no downside to asking first.
