What we look for in xhhw-2 wire
XHHW-2 is the cross-linked polyethylene insulated conductor spec'd for feeders, services and wet locations, and it shows up as surplus in bigger gauges than THHN does. When a job specifies XHHW it is usually pulling 250 MCM and up, which means the leftover reels are heavy and valuable.
We buy copper and aluminum XHHW-2 in all colors and all gauges, with a strong preference for full and near-full reels in 250, 350, 500 and 750 MCM. Aluminum XHHW in large gauges is common on utility and service work and we buy it readily, so do not assume aluminum is not worth a call.
Cancelled and rescoped projects are the usual source. A job gets value-engineered, the feeder schedule changes, and reels that were already delivered can no longer be returned to the distributor inside the return window. That is precisely the situation we exist to solve, and we can usually quote it off a photo of the reel tags.
