What we look for in ser & seu cable
SER and SEU are the service entrance cables that bring power from the meter into a residential or light commercial panel, plus the range and dryer feeders inside the building. They come in large aluminum gauges most often, 4/0-4/0-4/0-2/0 and 2-2-2-4 being the sizes we see stacked up as leftovers most frequently.
We buy it in coils and on reels, aluminum and copper, full and partial. Because these cables are physically bulky, sellers often assume they are worth less than they are. The aluminum content in a few coils of 4/0 SER adds up quickly, and the resale market for service cable is steady because every service upgrade needs it.
The classic source is a residential electrician who buys SER a reel at a time and finishes a run of houses with an awkward remainder, or a supply house rotating slow-moving stock. Either way the material is new, unused and perfectly saleable, and we treat it as resale inventory rather than as scrap.
