What actually helps

Keep reels upright and out of standing water. Keep tags attached. Group loose coils roughly together so they can be counted. Tell us whether there is a forklift or a dock, and whether a full-size trailer can reach the material. That is the entire useful list.

Covering outdoor reels with a tarp while you are getting quotes is the one action that protects value, because water wicking into the conductor is the condition problem that moves material toward scrap-grade.

What not to bother with

Do not sort by size, type or metal. Do not weigh anything. Do not re-spool, re-wrap or clean reels. Do not palletise loose coils. Do not move material to a dock. All of this is unpaid work that does not change your offer, and some of it risks damaging the wire.

Access is about equipment, not price

Upper floors, gravel yards, locked gates, tight docks and job trailers at the end of a dirt road are all normal. Access determines what we bring: a liftgate, a forklift, a smaller truck, extra crew. It does not change the number we quoted, provided we know before we dispatch.

The only thing that costs money in this business is a wasted trip, which is why we ask about access on the first call.

Timing and deadlines

If a lease ends, a yard has to be clear for an inspection, or a job site is closing out, tell us the date. Pickups are typically scheduled within one to two weeks, and a firm deadline moves a load up the schedule rather than causing a problem.
